In 1969, Shantilal Chatrabhuj Sagar opened a small gold showroom in Dubai before the UAE existed as a nation. He was simply doing what his family has always done — treating gold honestly, pricing it fairly and standing behind every gram he sold. Fifty-five years later that is still all we do. We have just built something that finally shows it.
In the 1950s, Shantilal Chatrabhuj Sagar crossed the Arabian Sea — one of a generation of traders who built futures in places the world had not yet finished forming. He arrived on the Arabian Peninsula with a craft, a set of values and an understanding of gold that would shape everything that came after.
In November 1969 he made his most defining decision. He opened a small gold jewellery showroom in what would become the Dubai Gold Souk — in a nation that did not yet formally exist. The UAE would not be formed until 1971. And yet our grandfather chose this place, this moment and this market with a certainty that has since proved itself across five and a half decades.
Shantilal Jewellers was born. One of the oldest jewellery companies in Dubai. Built before the country was built. And still here.
